In 1985, when my husband and I took a wine tasting tour in Oregon’s Yamhill Valley, I considered buying a couple bottles of wine to give as gifts, but the only gift bags the wineries had available were the typical glossy paper bags easily found at every grocery store with the exception of one bag made of burlap that cost nearly the same amount as the bottle of wine. Very disappointing. When I returned home, I started thinking about whether or not I could produce something more appropriate and affordable as a gift bag and designed The Wine Duffel. I mailed samples of my bag to several wineries and Tualatin Valley Vineyards became my first wholesale customer. The Wine Duffel led to several other products, often at the request of the wineries, that are still made today and featured on our website. I had wineries all over Oregon, some in Washington and one very large winery in Napa, California; The Napa Valley Wine Train.
In 2006, the economy started to slow, inflation was rising and by 2008, the wineries felt fortunate to have customers in their winery for tastings and to purchase their wine. There was no longer enough of a market for the wine related products I produced. However, I never stopped producing and started marketing on eBay where I have been a seller now for over 20 years.
